- Trustee and Chair (1997-2001, 2007-2011, 2011-2020), Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development (“IAIA”), Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1994-2020 (U.S. Presidential Appointment with Senate Confirmation). The IAIA is one of three congressionally chartered institutions of higher learning (along with Howard and Gallaudet Universities) and oversees associate, bachelor and MFA degree programs for Native Americans and Alaska Natives as well as the Museum of Contemporary Native American Art. During Mr. Kieve’s first tenure as Chair, the IAIA built and moved onto its new campus. During his second tenure as Chair, the IAIA constructed four new major campus construction projects and greatly expanded its curriculum. In his third (current) position as chair, the IAIA celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a major fundraising campaign, constructed a welcoming center and administration building, renovated its Museum with the addition of 30% more exhibition space, and has constructed a new Performing Arts Center. In 2015, President Obama reappointed Mr. Kieve to a new term as a trustee ending in 2020.
